WELCOME TO THE BENEFICE OF LOWER TEESDALE
You’re Welcome Here
Our Rector is the Rev. David Tomlinson, who works with two readers (lay ministers) Penny Sunderland and David Smith, as well as a great team of Church Wardens, a Verger, some retired clergy and other key people who all give of their time voluntarily.
WE WOULD LOVE TO MEET YOU
We worship in the midst of some of the most beautiful countryside in England. The Benefice comprises the Parish of Startforth with Brignall, the Parish of Bowes, the Parish of Romaldkirk (which includes Cotherstone) and the Parish of Laithkirk. We combine ancient spaces with living faith for poignant, beautiful and inspirational gatherings. Whether you are a Teesdale resident, a holiday maker, whether you are 1 week old, or 100 years old, we would love to welcome you at one of our beautiful churches.

We have the perfect buildings for beautiful church weddings, from the tiny Churches of Laithkirk and Brignall offering a unique intimacy, to the ancient St Romald's in Romaldkirk, or St. Cuthbert's in Cotherstone where the bells peal out joyfully. Then in Bowes we are right next door to a medieval castle, perfect for photographs. The possibilities are endless! To discuss them further contact the Rector, Revd. David Tomlinson on 07824064427 or email David.Tomlinson@Leeds.anglican.org
Along with our weddings our baptism celebrations have a great reputation for joy, for being child friendly, and for engaging with everyone old and young. We can baptise in any of our lovely buildings, in your garden, in the river Tees, you name it and we will work with you to make it happen. Baptising Children into the Christian Faith gives them a part in an ancient story, the Good News of Jesus, a tale of hope, of inclusion, of restoration and of course love.
